Do We Rely Too Heavily on Technology? (Article)

This is an article I found over the internet from a blog called A Writer’s Life by CJ Levinson. The article is linked to the theme of the story The Veldt because they both deal with issues of technology. The article is a piece in which the author states his thoughts about how technology is useful in ways but is always affecting humans.

In the article the author mentions how it is not technology that is bad but how people obsess over it, is the problem. His examples were cell phones and how some people text each other while they are in the same room. This is showing what is currently going on, meaning it will get a lot worse as we integrate technology into our lives even more. In the story the Hadley children were so obsessed with technology that they did not even want to go for vacation to a place without technology that will, do everything for them. As well in the article, CJ mentions how many people are becoming less and less intellectual. People are forgetting how to use their own senses and are relying on technology to do it for them. A calculator is a good example of that, many people now can not calculate basic math without a calculator. In all words, technology has the potential for great things, humans have come a long way with technological advances – humans are living longer and fighting of diseases but many people our losing their selves to this.
